Real People Read. Real Men Read, Real Women Read, Real Kids Read—all three programs happen primarily during March Reading Month, but there are year-round elements as well.

Literacy in the Park. This annual event is held each summer at the former chief library in Highland Park and attracts authors, volunteers, partners and hundreds of young people.

Books, Boys & Barbers. In partnership with several local barbershops, we provide reading areas for the young men there for haircuts.

F.R.E.E. Book Distribution. Through this Family Read Every Evening initiative, we get books to families and children at home. For free.

Interactive Storytime at the Wright. Every second Sunday of the month, we partner with the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History in Detroit for participating students to dance, sing and, of course, read.

Literacy Adventures. Whether it’s lunch at the Wright Museum, watching a play at The Fox Theatre or, even, a trip to see Barack Obama’s 2012 inauguration, students earn adventures through literacy-related competitions.
